What is our weatherization program?
The Monroe County Weatherization Program provides free services to eligible low-income households to reduce energy costs and improve home efficiency. This government-funded initiative helps homeowners and renters alike make their homes more energy-efficient, leading to reduced utility bills and increased self-sufficiency. Through funding from the federal Department of Energy and Department of Human Services, and under the administration of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the program aims to reduce the financial burden of high energy costs for eligible families.

Applicants qualify for the Weatherization Program based on household size and gross yearly income.

The services are available to both homeowners and renters who meet the income requirements.
Services Provided
Weatherization technicians perform energy audits to assess homes and identify cost-effective measures to improve energy efficiency. Common weatherization services include:
- Insulation installation
- Caulking around windows
- Weather-stripping around doors
- Heating system tune-ups and repairs
- Refrigerator replacement for energy efficiency
- LED bulb installation
- Hot water conservation measures
- Addressing carbon monoxide and combustion safety issues
Additionally, health and safety conditions, such as moisture venting in kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms, are addressed to ensure homes are both safe and energy-efficient.

To apply for the Weatherization Program in Monroe County, please contact us at
570-421-4300 for an appointment with an intake specialist. During your appointment, you will need to provide:
- Name, birthdate, and Social Security numbers for all household members
- Photo ID of the applicant
- Proof of income for the past 12 months for all household members
- Recent electric and fuel bills, including a statement of total use for the past year
- If you are a homeowner: a copy of a tax bill, recorded deed, or mobile home title
- If you are a renter: the landlord's name, address, and a copy of the lease
